Inside the marketing world

The Persuasion Game

In a marketing world where getting heard is hard, strategy consultancy Forge needed a podcast that worked beyond the feed. A content engine. A show that could get senior marketers talking strategy, good enough to earn their attention and consistent enough to keep it, working across every channel. So we helped them build the whole thing, end to end.

Real strategy, unpacked by the people who actually do it - at PepsiCo, Diageo, Burger King and beyond.

Hosts Laura Halliday and Adam Rowles get into the questions senior marketers wrestle with: how to grow a portfolio or how to win in a declining market. The guests have done it at the highest level - Stephan Gans at PepsiCo, Sally Smallman at Diageo, Katie Evans at Burger King. The conversations stay rooted in what makes it all work: persuasion, consumer behaviour, and the insight behind the decisions.

Own the conversation

We didn't want to create a generic marketing podcast. Forge wanted a place in a bigger conversation - one built on the thinking marketers care about. Guests wouldn't be there to unpack their last big campaign; they'd be there to get into how strategy actually gets made at the top. The brief was a podcast rooted in strategy, aimed squarely at senior marketers, and good enough to earn a place in their week.

How did we get there? Like every project inception, we got in a room together for a workshop, talked through the podcasts they admired, insights on their audience, and the thinking they wanted to be known for. We landed on the angle: strategy, seen through the lens of persuasion.

One recording, a fortnight of content

Forge needs every episode to work, hard. Every episode comes with a full publication kit - the show itself, multiple video clips, a LinkedIn newsletter, episode art, YouTube thumbnails and more. Everything needed to put the podcast in front of the right people, handed over ready to go. The point was never just to make a good episode. It was to turn one recording into a fortnight of content that lives where Forge's customers already are: LinkedIn.

We tested what works

These conversations are meant to do a job. They start discussions, drive engagement, reach the people Forge wants to work with. So we kept refining. We ran experiments on the video clips to see what landed. The result? 16:9 cuts performed better in the feed than the vertical formats most podcasts default to. More engagement, more of the right conversations, because we paid attention to where the audience actually is rather than assuming.

The right team on it

The team behind the show is built for this audience. Producer Anthony, came from the BBC newsroom. Our writer spent years reporting for Marketing Week. Our production manager, Flick, keeps the whole thing running like clockwork. It means a podcast that sounds like it belongs in the marketing world - because the people making it know it from the inside.

An extension of the team

This works because we're close to it. Regular planning meetings, content sessions, ideas shaped together. We sit alongside Forge rather than waiting on a brief. The show runs to a steady fortnightly rhythm without ever feeling like a treadmill, and the longer we work together, the more it sounds like them.

The clearest sign it worked:

Thank you so much for everything you have done to help create, produce and grow the podcast. We couldn't have done it with you. They really get podcasting and what it takes to make a great audio / video product, they're supportive, they care, flexible, responsive.

Adam Rowles, Forge

The Persuasion Game does what Forge set out to do: it gives them something to say on LinkedIn every week, it's opened doors to conversations they wanted to be in, and it's put them in the same room as the people they most want to work with. Proof that the right podcast doesn't just get you heard. It gets you a seat at the table.

Winning shows don’t wait

The best brands aren’t waiting for podcasting to settle down. They’re building shows that compound — episode after episode, season after season. If that sounds like the company you want to keep, let’s talk.
