Walk With A Ranger
The National Trust came to us with a brief that mattered: make their places accessible to as many people as possible, especially those unable to visit in person. Funded by Natural England and DEFRA's Access Fund, the podcast had to do the visiting for listeners who couldn't get there. Immersive, completely location-based, and a natural fit within the Trust's wider slate of podcasts.

Host Jo Dyson and the Trust's expert rangers lead the way, and the story of the landscape does the rest. Wind through the trees, birdsong, feet crunching through leaves and fascinating stories of the history of these spaces.
A visit in audio form
If a podcast is standing in for a real visit, it can't just describe its surroundings. It has to capture the spirit of it. We'd done this before, with A Life More Wild and Waterlands, so we knew what the job needed: the rangers' knowledge and passion at the centre, and the site itself as the co-star. Instead of fully scripted dialogue, we wrote prompt-based scripts for Jo, keeping the tone natural and conversational – a guide beside you, not a narrator above you. We captured the conversations, then went back for the all-important wild track that puts the listener in the landscape rather than outside it.
Letting nature through
Because the whole point is to let people enjoy the Surrey Hills without being there, we deliberately left more space around the dialogue than you'd hear in a typical podcast. Nature has room to speak. Tranquil music blends through it, chosen to complement both the content and the National Trust's identity, so the series sounds unmistakably like the Trust.
